The new 2022 Breitling Super Chronomat 44mm replica features a UTC module with two watches on the same strap, allowing you to keep track of time in two different time zones.
Case and Bezel
With a diameter of 44 mm, the Super Chronomat features a GMT module in the strap, giving it a majestic look on your wrist. The steel case completely ditches the roundness of the original 80s design. It has a satin finish with smooth polished edges and an additional crown protector, and like the case, it also shows contour lines and alternating matte and shiny surfaces.
The fluted crown and pushers are reminiscent of the original, and the winding crown is slightly domed. Two new details: the chronograph pushers are screwed in and partly made of black ceramic. The same scratch-resistant high-tech material is used for the calibration scale of the rotating bezel and the inlay of the bezel vernier. Otherwise, the rotating bezel and the unique bracelet are the two features that most clearly reference the original model. Twelve characteristic non-recessed screws along the edge of the bezel and four additional cursors on top of the bezel marking 0, 15, 30 and 45 minutes further confirm this historical reference.
As with the original model, the two markers for 15 and 45 can be interchanged to create a countdown scale. By the way, the edges of the cursor are not as sharp as they used to be. The bezel can only rotate in one direction, so this pilot’s watch is also suitable for divers – not least because its robust case can withstand pressures down to 200 meters. The zero hour markers on the bezel glow in the dark, as do the numerals 15, 30 and 45: these practical features improve legibility at night.
Dial
The design of the dial retains the 80s-style baton hour markers and the tips on the hands, while the flange’s tachymeter scale and percentile calibration remain faithful to the original. The hands and indexes now have larger polished surfaces for a more elegant look. The sub-dial is highlighted in silver, partly with concentric grooves. Due to its red color, the passing seconds hand looks very sporty. Unfortunately, the small silver hands contrast sharply with the silver background of the sub-dial, which makes these small hands somewhat difficult to read, although the luminous material on the hands improves their legibility in the dark. Breitling integrated the date display symmetrically and discreetly into the elapsed hours counter at 6 o’clock. The GMT module isn’t particularly large, but it’s big enough to read well day or night. The trapezoidal support plate of the module and the 5-minute calibration on the scale along the wide bezel are also reminiscent of the original model.
The new Breitling Super Chronomat replica comes with a wheel bracelet or a rubber strap. You can also choose from stainless steel or 18k gold. For the UTC module, you need to select the bracelet. This isn’t the only extra timer on the watch. The replica Super Chronomat also features the Super Chronomat 44 four-year calendar, which Breitling calls “semi-permanent” (you only need to adjust it for leap years). On the dial, you’ll find four subdials for measuring the date, day of the week and month, as well as chronograph timing.
